For non-profit scientific research purposes, Genetic Ancestor offers a free database analysis of multiple mitochondrial DNA sequences.

To our knowledge, we curate the largest proofread database of native humans in the world (reviewed by Carina Dennis 2003).

Forster P (2003) To err is human. Annals of Human Genetics 67:2-4. Commentary by Carina Dennis: Error reports threaten to unravel databases of mitochondrial DNA. Nature 421:773-774

The database calculates centres-of-gravity for best matches and then produces a summary map which we send to you.

To use this service, please submit your mtDNA file in *.grv-format. A minimum file size of 100 mtDNA sequences is needed, with a minimal sequence range of np16093-np16362 in the numbering of Anderson et al. (1981).

The results will be sent to you by e-mail as a pdf-attachment.

Please email your files in *.grv-format directly to Dr. Peter Forster.

An acknowledgement mentioning this website is expected in the resulting publication.
